CHEYENNE(AP) — The iconic entrepreneur Elon Musk is backing ideas for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere, ranging from algae farming to the manufacturing of a form of artificial limestone.

Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, is supporting a $100 million XPRIZE Carbon Removal competition to uncover the most promising methods to reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide by sucking the gas directly out of the air.

The 15 early-stage “milestone round” winners were announced on Friday, and each will get $1 million, a good boost for the teams to continue and scale up their work.
