Nicol David, a retired squash champion, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by Heriot-Watt University Malaysia for her contributions to sport and her advocacy for constructive education in empowering lives.

Taking to Facebook, the 38-year-old stated that during her address at the honorary doctorate event, she told the graduates how her 20 years of professional squash had taught her many lessons.
“Life is never a straight line. We will constantly face hurdles in every step we take, some tiny, some large, but we will always have to reroute to find our way.

“There is no right or wrong way in life; the beauty is having the courage inside yourself to persevere when things get difficult. Hard effort and perseverance in pursuit of your goals will always pay off “She wrote again, asking people to steer away from those who do not support them.
